EXPERIENCE THE NEW VOYAGE & JOURNEY TASTING MENU –
as my previous post said, i was in bangkok for a week during the easter holiday. after the ticket & hotel booked 2 months in-advance, i looked up on-line and wanted to know what’s the latest cuisine scene that is a-must-try in bangkok right now. i found this special one on the famous sathorn road, adjacent to W HOTEL BANGKOK. a new restaurant inside a historic building. its neo-classical structure are stunningly gorgeous. moreover, the CHEF FATIH TUTAK is the director of culinary at THE HOUSE ON SATHORN. he used to work for the world’s #1 restaurant NOMA and many other famous restaurants in the world. his latest TASTING MENU ( VOYAGE & JOURNEY ) starts from march 16, 2016. i was lucky to experience his latest works and had a wonderful evening. despite the gorgeous building itself, i found their service was impeccable too :-).
THE HOUSE ON SATHORN, the 127-year-old colonial mansion revives theatrical dining in the heart of bangkok, offering juxtaposing scene with eclectic dining & socializing opportunities in one of the capital’s most beguiling settings.
built in 1889 during the reign of KING RAMA V, the house’s neo-classical structure originally housed wealthy businessman LUANG SATHORN RAJAYUTKA, who created sathorn canal. the home was later was passed down to his descendants. in the early 1920s, the site was converted into the majestic hotel royal. later, from 1948 to 1999, the building served as the russian embassy.
recognizing the immense historic value of the house, the development team worked closely with thailand’s fine arts department to carefully restore the home to its former glory, as part of the conversion to THE HOUSE ON SATHORN. major renovations were conducted on the four buildings and large courtyard, keeping the original main structure intact. meanwhile, inside, the original color palette, intricate wooden staircases and even the SATHORN RAJAYUTKA family’s personalized fresco motifs have all been meticulously restored by the fine arts department. the compelling juxtaposition of contemporary components and new elements reflect the boundless creativity of renowned design firm AVROKO, a design & concept firm of new york.
a specialty restaurant presenting dishes that are inspired by CHEF FATIH’S travels, experiences and unforgettable culinary highlights across asia. his menu is craftily curated with a “fun dining” concept combining with a perfect balance of technique, culinary sensibility and a sense of humor.
the restaurant features THAI-inspired handcrafted tapestries as a backdrop which consist of an eclectic mix of custom-made sequins that add a modern twist, as well as rich textures, as if the royal gowns were torn apart and delicately sewn back together. an open kitchen against the long wooden counter enticing diners to sit and interact with the chef in a comfortable and relaxed approach.
